Thank you for visiting! I have dedicated over two decades of my life (since 1978) to marbling. My specialty is the reproduction of early marbled papers, particularly the ones from about 1800 - 1860. I consider this period to be the high point in the long history of marbling, just prior to the use of marbling machines during the Victorian era. To achieve these designs and colors, I make my own marbling colors using, where possible, the same pigments used during the period (some pigments no longer exist, the supplies having been used up, or were found to be too dangerous for use, such as orpiment, a yellow that is arsenic based). The papers, however, are not only limited to early designs. I do extensive work for small presses, decorators, framers and other craftspeople and will design and execute a paper of their choosing. Large orders are no problem, and paper prices are wholesale. Several years ago I took over the marbling supply company, Decorative Papers. For those of you who have used these colors in the past, you may like to know that the formula has been changed. The colors are now about twice the density, and we have some new ones as well. People are very pleased with this change, but for those of you who liked the old formula, all you need to do is thin them with an equal amount of distilled water.

Samplings

These papers are representative of the styles that can be made. It would be impossible to show everything because I make many thousands of different papers, once the possibilities of pattern and color are multiplied. There is no particular "set stock". It is a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but it adds up to many hundreds of papers on the shelf, ready for immediate shipment. Custom orders can be made, as well, to your specifications. These samplings are only meant to be a guideline and to show some basic traditional marbling patterns. They can be made in any other color theme you wish.

MARBLING TIP: Humidity & Pre-alumed Papers - If you pre-alum and dry your papers in bulk so they are ready when you want to marble......make sure they are stored in a place with 50% or less humidity. Too high humidity over as short period of time as a few days can make the alum weak and some of your colors, particularly the reds, may rinse off. If you find this happening, decrease the humidity or move the papers to a dryer area for a week. The alum will in almost all cases work like a charm again. I have tested alumed papers in varying degrees of humidity, and have used papers alumed up to two years prior this way.
